Jeremy Swist, often under the alias of Zephyrus, is an Honors College student at the University of Maine. He is pursuing degrees in Latin, History and Classics, the former of which is the thrust of this project. He serves the department of Modern Languages & Classics as a Latin tutor. He expects to graduate in 2011 under the auspices of Drs. Kristina Passman and Jay Bregman.
In Latin, Jeremy has studied in depth the works of Vergil, Lucretius, Cicero, Livy, Catullus, Horace, Caesar and Tacitus. Future studies at UMaine will include Ovid, Boethius, Plautus, Terrence, and many more. For his Classics minor he is studying Ancient Greek and is concentrating on antiquity for his History major.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he now calls Westport Island, Maine his home. Aside from his obsession with the ancient world, Jeremy is an enthusiast for Metal music. He has published reviews for The Metal Observer, Maine Campus, and his own blog, and hosts the Ministry of Metal, a three-hour broadcast Sundays 7-10 PM when college is in session. Xanthus, his Black Metal project with Nick Adams, is one of the inspirations for this academic endeavor. Yet everything is owed to Dr. Raymond Smith, who first illuminated to Jeremy the words of Vergil’s magnum opus.
